Pain Pleasure and Heaven

Arnold Schwarzenegger in Pumping Iron said (in his heavy German accent),
“…a ‘pump’ is the feeling you get in a gym, let’s say you train your biceps, your muscles get a really tight feeling, like your skin is going to explode any minute, it’s really tight, like somebody is blowing air into it, it feels different, it feels fantastic…”
Bodybuilding is a new sport. Yes it is a sport. I am saying this because many people do not agree that it’s a sport! It is as much a sport as football is, as cricket is or like any other “sport” as we know them! Anyways, it was not known to the world till late 60’s, and the credit goes to this great man, Arnold, to have made the world come to know of it. In India, after the acceptance from our very own Bollywood it has become “the thing”!

This blog is not about bodybuilding, it’s about Gymming. Funny, “Gymming” is not even a word. Its "Going to the Gymnasium”. But of course who would say that all the time. We prefer Gymming.

Gymming, is not bodybuilding, it’s different from bodybuilding. Yes, you do build your body by going to the gym, but because “bodybuilding” has always been related to those gigantic humans whom people find “ewww” when they see their posters or on the TV, we do not want to call it bodybuilding.

So, gymming has become a craze now. People want to go to the gym and sweat. Why? Because they want to be fit, they want to look good. Believe me, you do not start "looking" good by going to the gym. You simply start feeling good about yourself. I guess that’s the only thing required to look good.

What do people do in the gym?

They go there, run on a treadmill, cycle on a stationary bike, stretch their bodies, pick some weights, sweat, that’s it. How does that start making them feel good about themselves?

It’s not easy, going to the gym. Working out and doing those extra reps, those extra sets, that extra minute on the treadmill. Sweat like a pig, eat like a cow, have sore muscles for days, your arms shiver, your legs shiver. Why would anyone want to go through all of that?

Working out every day is like a war. Not physical, but a war in your mind. You vs You!
No one feels like going to the gym every day. It’s a war in your head which you fight by going to that place and sweat! It’s a war in your head when your arms are shivering and still you push yourself to do that extra rep. It’s a war in your head when you feel you are about to collapse and you decide to do that extra squat. And when you do that one extra minute/rep/squat, you win! You win over yourself. And that is when you start feeling good about yourself. Everyone feels good going back home having won!

He continued,
“…the greatest feeling you can get in a gym or the most satisfying feeling you can get in a gym is the ‘pump’, it’s as satisfying to me as cumming is!...”
It’s human nature, to want to win. Every other place where you have to win, a lot of other things come in your way other than just you. But in a gym it’s you, and the weight, no one else. So when you win, it’s you who has won, just You!
Huge biceps, bulging chest, six pack abs, big quads, thick forearms, all come later. The feeling of winning, the feeling of pushing yourself, the sweet adrenaline rush, the heat and the sweat, the ‘pump’, comes first.
“….Can you believe how much I am in heaven? I am getting the feeling of cumming in the gym, I am getting the feeling of cumming at home, I am getting the feeling of cumming backstage when I pump up!...”
It brings a routine in you, automatically. "Early to bed and early to rise" starts making sense to you, you think once before putting an extra spoon of ghee in your dal, you start choosing the stairs next to the escalator, you start walking to the market rather than taking your bike. It changes you, for good!
A week into a gym, you will not want to leave it. It’s fantastic.
“...I am getting the feeling of cumming day and night, it’s terrific, I am in heaven!”
